Position Overview
G:HUB Policy Centre conducts research and policy advocacy on issues related to climate change, green finance and ocean conservation. The position will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to be involved in:
Research (writing and analysis) on climate change and investment/finance issues to achieve an environmental friendly future;
Exploring emerging and innovative fields independently, provided with international learning and training opportunities, supporting and joining workshop activities;
Providing support and administrative tasks to the centre when necessary;
Working with an efficient team under a flexible work environment.
The researcher will have the opportunity to work in a new and dynamic grass-root NGO, research topics vital to China’s green transition, and to develop valuable experience working in a local civil society organization with a global outlook.
Main responsibilities:
1. Assist the Climate and Policy Centre in developing an overall long term vision and strategy with respect to G:HUB providing research and innovative policy advocacy related to climate and sustainable finance for China’s green transition.
2. Identify banking industry issues including practices and trends in lending portfolios as well as environmental and social risks management; analyze relevant international principles and national policy and standards; develop and implement a plan for engaging financial sector in low-carbon and sustainable investment.
3. Support the team to work towards a truly responsible, climate-friendly and mutually-beneficial model for China’s overseas investment by promoting policy, regulatory, and industry safeguards and best practice.
4. Develop networking relationships with stakeholders in finance and climate sectors, and ally with domestic and international civil society groups and develop connections with academics and think tank researchers.
5. Organize and join related workshop activities and provide general support and administrative tasks to the centre when necessary.
Necessary Qualifications
Most importantly, G:HUB seek applicants with a commitment to environmental protection and/or responsible investment and corporate social responsibility. Additionally applicants should:
Hold at least a Bachelor ’s degree in environmental policy, management or economics; finance; international relation or public policy. With background from management consultancy, financial or industrial research and analysis, or significant work/internship experience in CSR; climate, environmental or energy related work is needed. MBA or financial certification of CFA would be a significant plus.
Be able to conduct independent research and investigative work with excellent financial and business knowledge, network with different players related to financial sectors including government officials, policymakers, and regulators. Knowledge of China’s local and global market dynamics would be desirable
Have basic researching skills and adept at using financial databases, analyzing industrial trends, and able to contribute to developing strategies of the centre.
Be able to follow guidance from supervisor, but also be able to take initiative and work independently.
Have good communication skills and be comfortable working as part of a team, be able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks according to deadlines.
Be fluent in Chinese and English, and feel comfortable to communicate in English at least at an intermediate level.
Be personally committed to working in an NGO sector and working towards the goal of an environmental and climate friendly future.
Be based in Beijing, accept to work flexible hours and be willing to travel when necessary, both in China and overseas in some cases.
